SSC GD Constable: Exam Pattern and Practice Questions

The Staff Selection Commission recruits Constables (General Duty) for BSF, CISF, CRPF, ITBP, SSB and the Secretariat Security Force, and Riflemen (GD) for the Assam Rifles, through one examination. According to the official notice, the process runs through a Computer Based Examination, a Physical Standard Test and Physical Efficiency Test, a medical examination and document verification. The written paper is set at Matriculation level and covers reasoning, general awareness, elementary maths and English or Hindi.

What the SSC GD exam consists of

  • Part A – General Intelligence and Reasoning20 questions, 40 marks. Mainly non-verbal: analogies, similarities and differences, spatial visualisation, number and figure series, coding and decoding, arithmetical reasoning.
  • Part B – General Knowledge and General Awareness20 questions, 40 marks. The environment around you, current events, everyday science, and India and its neighbours – sports, history, culture, geography, economy, polity and the Constitution.
  • Part C – Elementary Mathematics20 questions, 40 marks. Number systems, fractions and decimals, percentages, ratio and proportion, averages, interest, profit and loss, discount, mensuration, time and distance, time and work. Calculators are not allowed.
  • Part D – English or Hindi20 questions, 40 marks testing basic understanding and comprehension of English or Hindi.
  • PST / PETCandidates shortlisted on CBE performance go through biometric verification, then the Physical Standard Test (height, weight, chest as applicable) and the Physical Efficiency Test, a timed race.
  • Medical examination and document verificationA detailed medical examination and scrutiny of documents and eligibility are carried out by the CAPFs before final selection.
