Border Patrol Entrance Exam: Format and Logical Reasoning Practice

The U.S. Border Patrol Agent entrance exam is taken on a computer and, according to the CBP preparation guide, has two parts: an Experience Record about your background and a Logical Reasoning Test that measures reasoning, decision-making, judgment and problem solving. The Experience Record needs no preparation, so the 50 original questions below focus on logical reasoning: short paragraphs where you accept every fact as true and pick the one valid (or the one invalid) conclusion.

How to prepare for the Border Patrol Entrance Exam with SimpleQuizMaker

  1. Read every paragraph as true, even if it differs from what you know, and never add outside facts.
  2. Underline the quantity words (all, some, none, not, only) before reading the options.
  3. For each if-then rule, write its contrapositive: if not the result, then not the condition.
  4. Practice with a timer at about three minutes per item to match the official average pace.

Border Patrol Entrance Exam tips

  • Check the lead-in first: "can be validly concluded" asks for one valid answer, "CANNOT be validly concluded" asks for the one invalid answer.
  • Never reverse an "all" or if-then statement: "all A are B" does not mean "all B are A".
  • "Some A are not B" tells you nothing about whether some A are B.
  • Words like "all" and "none" appear in both right and wrong options, so do not use them as a shortcut.
  • You cannot skip or go back on the adaptive test, so make your best choice and move on.
