TL;DR. Three things shipped: you can now generate a quiz directly from a YouTube video or article URL (Student plan), math and chemistry notation renders properly instead of showing raw LaTeX, and you can export a quiz as a printable PDF (student copy + separate answer key), an editable DOCX, or a script that creates an auto-grading Google Form.

Generate a quiz from a YouTube video or article link

Open the quiz builder and pick From URL as your content source. Paste a YouTube link or an article URL, and SimpleQuizMaker fetches the transcript or the readable article text and generates a quiz from it — the same AI pipeline used for pasted text and uploaded files.

A few practical limits:

  • YouTube videos need captions. If a video has no captions (manual or auto-generated), there's no transcript to work from.
  • Video length cap: up to 45 minutes, on the Student plan.
  • This is a Student plan feature. Free accounts can still paste text, upload a topic, or type a prompt — YouTube and URL input specifically require a paid plan.

    Math and chemistry notation, rendered properly

    If your source material has an equation or a chemical formula, the AI now writes it in LaTeX and SimpleQuizMaker renders it as real notation — in the quiz builder preview, while taking the quiz, in the review screen, on flashcards, and in printed/exported PDFs. Previously this showed up as raw text like `$x^2 - 4 = 0$`; now it renders as an actual equation.

    This matters most for STEM content — algebra, chemistry equations, physics formulas — where readability of the notation is the difference between a fair question and a confusing one.

    Open any quiz you own and click Export. Four formats:

  • PDF — Student copy: a clean, printable version with no answers shown — just the questions and space to answer.
  • PDF — Answer key: the same quiz with correct answers and explanations, as a separate document so you're not handing students the key by accident.
  • DOCX: the same content in an editable Word document, in case you want to tweak wording before printing.
  • Google Form script: a downloadable Google Apps Script that creates an auto-grading Google Form from your quiz when you run it from script.google.com.

    • PDF, DOCX, and Google Forms script export are all available on the Student plan. Free accounts can still use the original print view (with an "include answer key" checkbox) that's been part of SimpleQuizMaker from the start.

    Getting the best results from a YouTube or article link

    A few things make the difference between a sharp quiz and a generic one when you're generating from a URL:

  • Pick a video with real captions, not just auto-generated ones where possible. Auto-captions are usable, but a video with creator-provided captions tends to produce cleaner questions, since the transcript has fewer transcription errors to accidentally turn into wrong-answer material.
  • Shorter, focused videos beat long ones. A 12-minute explainer on one topic generates a tighter quiz than a 45-minute lecture that wanders across three. If you only need to test one section of a longer video, it's often faster to paste the relevant transcript text directly instead.
  • Articles work best when they're mostly prose. A URL that's mostly navigation, ads, or a paywalled excerpt gives the generator less to work with than a clean article page.
