SimpleQuizMaker vs Gimkit: Honest Comparison

Share:XLinkedIn

TL;DR. Gimkit is a live learning game show: you build a kit of questions and students play it live or as an assignment. SimpleQuizMaker is an AI quiz generator that writes the questions for you and shares a plain quiz link. Pick Gimkit for game-driven review; pick SimpleQuizMaker when writing questions is the bottleneck.

SimpleQuizMaker publishes this comparison; we checked Gimkit's public pages on 6 October 2026.

What each tool is for

Gimkit calls itself a live learning game show. Teachers create kits (question sets), host games in a range of modes, and see reports afterwards. Its help center explains that the free Gimkit Basic plan includes three rotating game modes, classes and reports, while Gimkit Pro unlocks every mode plus assignments for homework-style play.

SimpleQuizMaker solves a different problem: producing the questions. You give it a topic or paste your material, the AI drafts a quiz with up to four question types, you edit, and you share a link that respondents open without an account.

Where Gimkit is better

  • A real live game. Gimkit is built around a hosted session with strategy and competition. SimpleQuizMaker has no live hosted game mode at all.
  • Many game modes. Pro unlocks every mode, so a single kit can be replayed in very different formats across a unit.
  • Large live classes on the free plan. Gimkit's help center lists a 500-student limit for live games on Basic (60 in 2D modes).
  • Media in questions. Pro lets you upload images and add audio to questions. SimpleQuizMaker does not support image or audio questions.
  • Choose Gimkit if your students respond to game mechanics and you want review sessions to feel like an event.

  • AI writes the first draft. Topic or pasted text in, editable quiz out. On the Student plan you can also generate from a PDF, DOCX, image, URL or YouTube video.
  • No session to run. A quiz is just a link, so students can take it whenever and wherever, which also suits adult learners and self-study.
  • Recall-style questions. Short answer and fill in the blank sit alongside multiple choice and true/false.
  • Follow-up study. Turn the quiz into SM-2 spaced-repetition flashcards.
  • Lower paid price. As of October 2026 our Student plan is $2.99/month, against Gimkit Pro's $14.99/month; the two plans include different things, so compare features, not just price.
  • Pricing (as of October 2026)

Gimkit's Pro FAQ lists Gimkit Pro at $14.99/month or $59.88/year. Gimkit Basic is free with three rotating modes, classes and reports.

    Which should you choose?

  • Pick Gimkit if you host live review games, want every game mode, or need images and audio inside questions.
  • Pick SimpleQuizMaker if you need questions written fast from your own material, want students to take quizzes on their own schedule, or want flashcards for later study.
  • Use both if you like Gimkit's games but hate writing kits: draft and edit questions in SimpleQuizMaker, then type them into a Gimkit kit. There is no direct export.
