1,659 AI Quizzes: Real Usage Data (2026)

Share:XLinkedIn

TL;DR. Across the 1,659 quizzes created on SimpleQuizMaker between 16 May and 5 October 2026, nine in ten questions were multiple choice, almost four in five quizzes had exactly 10 questions, three in four were set to medium difficulty, and about half of all quiz attempts came from people without an account.

Where these numbers come from

This is a snapshot of SimpleQuizMaker's own production database on 5 October 2026, counted directly, not sampled or estimated. It covers every quiz saved since 16 May 2026, the date our current database begins. The figures are aggregate counts only; no quiz content, titles or personal data were read for this post.

What it is not: a quality study. Nobody graded these questions, and we make no claim here about how accurate AI-generated questions are. For that question, see AI quiz questions: common errors and fixes.

The headline numbers

  • 1,659 quizzes saved, by 1,210 different accounts
  • 17,134 questions in those quizzes
  • 1,732 completed attempts, on 590 different quizzes
  • 469 flashcard decks holding 5,234 cards
  • 29 Letter Wheel games
  • Question types: multiple choice dominates

    Short answer1,0075.9%
    True / false5143.0%
    Fill in the blank2251.3%

Multiple choice is the default in the generator, and most people keep the default. That matters for anyone designing quizzes: the quality of a multiple-choice question lives in its wrong answers, so it is worth reading how to write good multiple choice distractors before relying on a generated set.

Quiz length: ten questions is the norm

Of the 1,659 quizzes, 1,292 (77.9%) have exactly 10 questions and 155 (9.3%) have 5. Ten is the largest count on the free plan and the size of the first quiz every new account generates during sign-up (the builder itself starts at five), so this mostly reflects defaults and plan limits rather than a deliberate choice. Longer quizzes (20, 50 or 100 questions) are available on the Student plan and are rare. If you are wondering what length to pick, how many questions should a quiz have walks through the trade-offs.

    Difficulty: medium by default

People who change the setting move up more often than down: hard is chosen almost twice as often as easy.

    Languages

1,010 quizzes (60.9%) were saved with the language set to "auto". Until early August 2026 the app stored that setting instead of the language the questions were actually written in, so those rows do not tell us the real language. Among the 649 quizzes with an explicit language, English leads with 434, followed by Spanish (81), Arabic (47), French (31), Portuguese (20) and Turkish (17), with smaller numbers in Korean, German, Japanese, Russian and Chinese.

    Where the questions come from

Our analytics record the input type for 1,391 generations. 1,242 (89.3%) started from typed text or a topic, 26 from an uploaded file and 5 from a web link; the remaining 118 events did not record a type. File and link input are Student-plan features, which explains most of the gap: most people on the free plan generate from a topic.

    Who takes the quizzes

Of the 1,732 completed attempts, 885 (51.1%) were made by people without a SimpleQuizMaker account. Quizzes are shared as a link that takers open without an account, so half of the people answering never sign up for anything. Only 590 of the 1,659 quizzes (35.6%) were ever completed by anyone, which suggests many quizzes are made for self-study or as drafts rather than shared.

    What we take from it

  • Defaults decide most quizzes. Question type, length and difficulty all cluster on the default. Whatever an AI quiz tool picks as its default is, in practice, the quiz.
  • Sharing without accounts is used. Half of all attempts came from people with no account.
  • Self-study is a big share. Two thirds of quizzes were never taken by anyone, suggesting creators use them to study or review on their own.
  • Limitations

These are counts from one product, over under five months, and they reflect its defaults and plan limits. They say what people built, not whether the questions were good. Numbers will change as the product changes; we will update this page rather than publish new figures elsewhere.
