Quiz Questions for 9-11 Year Olds

Share:XLinkedIn

TL;DR. Here are 96 general knowledge quiz questions for 9-11 year olds, with answers, in eight rounds of twelve: science, geography, history, maths, animals, books, sport and music. Each round runs from easy to medium to hard, so you can pick the level that suits a class, a party or a family quiz night.

How to use these questions

Each round has four easy (E), four medium (M) and four hard (H) questions. For a mixed-ability group, play the easy ones first and save the hard ones for a bonus or tie-breaker. Every answer below is a stable fact rather than a current record, so the quiz will not go out of date next year.

Tips for this age group:

  • Teams of three or four keep everyone involved and stop one confident child answering everything.
  • Write answers down rather than calling out, so slower thinkers get a chance.
  • Explain the answer after each question. Children remember the surprising ones.
  • Mix in a picture or "true or false" round if energy dips.

  • Running the quiz in class or at a party

For a classroom, one round per day makes a good five-minute starter, and the hard questions make a good extension for fast finishers. For a party, play two or three rounds and finish with a tie-breaker such as "How many degrees in a right angle?" for teams on equal points.

If you want rounds on a specific topic the class is studying, a quiz maker can draft questions from a topic or from your own notes. The free plan gives 5 generations a month of up to 10 questions each; check every generated answer before you read it out, the same way we checked the ones above.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What are good GK questions for kids aged 9 to 11?

Questions about planets, continents and capital cities, famous inventions and historical events, times tables and shapes, animal facts, well-known children's books, sport rules and musical instruments. Stable facts work better than current ones such as record holders.

How many questions should a kids quiz have?

For 9-11 year olds, a common setup is four to eight rounds of ten to twelve questions, with a break in the middle. Shorter is better for a classroom starter; longer works for a party.

How do I make a quiz fair for mixed ages?

Use teams that mix ages, and mark questions easy, medium and hard. You can give easy questions to younger players or award more points for hard ones.

    Are these answers checked?

Yes. We included only facts that are settled and not time-sensitive, and dropped anything ambiguous. If your local curriculum uses a different convention (for example, how many continents), go with your class's version.
