Sample German Quiz Questions
A flavour of what the AI generates — every question comes with an explanation that teaches, not just grades.
Q1. Choose the correct article: "___ Mädchen ist nett." ("The girl is nice.")
- A.Der
- B.Die
- C.Das
- D.Den
Explanation
"Mädchen" is neuter (das) despite referring to a girl — the diminutive -chen always takes das. "Den" is accusative masculine; der/die would be wrong gender.
Q2. Which case follows the preposition "mit" (with)?
- A.Nominativ
- B.Akkusativ
- C.Dativ
- D.Genitiv
Explanation
"Mit" always takes the dative. The dative prepositions (the "fixed dative" group): aus, bei, mit, nach, seit, von, zu, gegenüber.
Common German Mistakes
- ·Forgetting that compound nouns take the gender of their last component (das Haustier from das Tier).
- ·Mixing up the four cases. Each has signature prepositions and verb-rection patterns — memorise them.
- ·Skipping separable-verb prefix placement. Ich rufe dich AN (not anrufe) — the prefix goes to the end.
- ·Capitalising only proper nouns. All German nouns are capitalised; non-nouns mostly aren't.
Study Tips for German
- ·Learn nouns with their article from day one. Adding the article later is much harder.
- ·Drill the prepositions-and-cases tables until automatic.
- ·Read one Wikipedia article in German per week. Real syntax beats textbook syntax.
- ·Watch Tatort or other German TV with subtitles. Spoken German varies sharply from textbook.
