How it works

  1. 1

    Add your text

Paste up to 12,000 characters, or upload a PDF, DOCX, DOC or TXT file.

  2. 2

    Choose a mode

Standard, Fluent, Formal, Simple or Shorten.

  3. 3

    Compare and copy

Read the new version against your original and copy what works.

What you get

  • Five modes

Each mode gives a different kind of rewrite — from a fresh wording of the same text to a version about 60% of the length.

  • Facts stay put

Names, numbers, quotations and technical terms are kept accurate rather than "reworded" into errors.

  • Paragraphs preserved

Your structure stays the same, so the result drops straight back into your document.

  • Same language out

The rewrite is in the language of your text.

  • Paste or upload

Work on a single paragraph or a whole document.

The five paraphrasing modes

Pick the mode by what you want the text to do, not by how different you want it to look.

  • Standard — rewords every sentence with new structure and vocabulary, keeping meaning, tone and length close to the original.
  • Fluent — smooths awkward phrasing and improves the flow between sentences without changing the meaning.
  • Formal — rewrites in an academic register for essays and reports, with no contractions or slang.
  • Simple — plain language with shorter sentences and common words, for a younger or non-specialist reader.
  • Shorten — keeps every key point but cuts repetition and filler, aiming for about 60% of the original length.

Good uses for a paraphraser

Paraphrasing is useful when your own draft says the right thing badly: a sentence you have rewritten five times, a paragraph that is too long for a word limit, or a report that needs to be readable by people outside your field. Teachers use Simple mode to adapt a reading for a younger class, and Formal mode helps turn rough notes into report language.

Rewording a source does not make it yours. If the ideas come from someone else, they still need a citation, and many schools treat paraphrasing a source without credit as plagiarism. Use the tool to improve your writing, and cite what you borrow.

Check the result

Read the paraphrase against the original. A rewrite can shift emphasis or soften a claim, and you are the one who knows exactly what you meant. Keep the sentences that improve on yours and discard the rest.

Tips for better paraphrasing

Pick the mode for the job rather than the default every time. Standard rewords while keeping length and tone close; fluent smooths awkward phrasing; formal moves the text to an academic register; simple uses shorter sentences and common words; shorten keeps the key points at about 60% of the length.

Paraphrase a paragraph or a section at a time when you can — it is easier to check a short result against its original. The tool accepts up to 12,000 characters of pasted text or an uploaded PDF, DOCX, DOC or TXT file up to 10 MB.

  • Read the result next to your original, sentence by sentence
  • Check that names, numbers and quotations came through unchanged
  • Run the grammar checker afterwards if you edited the result by hand
  • Cite the source of any idea that is not your own, however it is worded

Paraphraser vs. humanizer vs. grammar checker

The paraphraser changes wording and structure on purpose — useful when a passage needs to be simpler, shorter or more formal. The humanizer is for your own draft that reads stiff or generic, and rewrites it in a more natural voice. The grammar checker changes as little as possible: it fixes errors and leaves correct sentences alone.

If you only want mistakes fixed, use the grammar checker; a paraphraser will change sentences that were already fine.

Frequently asked questions

Is the paraphrasing tool free?

Creating an account is free. Running the AI tools — including the paraphraser — is part of every paid plan, along with file uploads for the quiz maker. You can open the tool and look around on a free account.

Which modes are there?

Standard, Fluent, Formal, Simple and Shorten. Each one gives a different kind of rewrite; Shorten aims for about 60% of the original length.

How much text can I paraphrase at once?

Up to 12,000 characters per run, pasted or taken from a PDF, DOCX, DOC or TXT file up to 10 MB.

Will it change my numbers or names?

It is instructed to keep names, numbers, quotations and technical terms accurate. Still, compare the result with your original before using it.

Is paraphrasing a source plagiarism?

It can be if you do not credit the source. Rewording someone else’s ideas still requires a citation under most school rules.

Does paraphrasing make copied text my own work?

No. Rewording someone else's ideas still needs a citation. Use the paraphraser to understand, simplify or tighten text, and credit the source as your school or publisher requires.
