More Than Live Polls: A Mentimeter Alternative for Real Quizzes

Mentimeter is a live presentation and audience interaction tool, and a very good one. Polls, word clouds, open-ended questions and a Quiz Competition with a leaderboard for up to 2,000 players all happen on a shared screen while you talk. Participants join with a code, QR code or link and need no account. It even has an AI Creation assistant that can draft a presentation from a prompt and an uploaded PDF. If you run workshops, lectures or all-hands meetings, SimpleQuizMaker does not compete: it has no live mode, no polls and no word clouds. The gap is self-paced assessment. Mentimeter's scored quiz only runs live; Survey mode is self-paced but is not the Quiz Competition. The Free plan stops at 50 participants a month, exports start on Basic at $11.99 per presenter per month billed yearly, and Pro is $24.99 billed yearly only. SimpleQuizMaker is made for the quiz people take on their own. The AI writes it from text or a topic for free, or from PDFs, Word files, images, web pages or YouTube videos on the $2.99/month Student plan. Anyone with the link can answer, with no account and no cap on submissions. You get per-person results and per-question stats, and can print it with an answer key or export it to Word or Google Forms. Decision rule: if the quiz happens in the room, during your talk, use Mentimeter. If it happens afterwards, on each person's schedule, and you need to see who got what right, use SimpleQuizMaker. If you need company-wide billing, SSO or an enterprise contract, Mentimeter offers that and SimpleQuizMaker does not. Many trainers will reasonably use Mentimeter live and SimpleQuizMaker for the follow-up.

Illustrative scenario: a freelance trainer runs a half-day workshop and uses Mentimeter on the Free plan for opening polls and a live Quiz Competition at the end. Afterwards the client asks for a knowledge check that attendees complete within a week, including people who could not attend. The live quiz cannot run self-paced, and the audience together with later sessions would go past the 50-participant monthly limit. The trainer keeps Mentimeter for the room. For the follow-up she uploads the workshop handout PDF to SimpleQuizMaker on the Student plan, generates a 20-question quiz with multiple choice and short answer, and emails the link. Attendees open it, type their name and finish when they can. She then reviews per-question stats to see which topic needs a recap email, and exports a PDF with the answer key for the client's records.
